Our work in Thailand

Since 2014, Thailand has been an NHRF priority country. Our work in Thailand is primarily on two of our three thematic areas; dismantling discrimination, inequality and marginalization and protection of human rights defenders and the right to defend rights.

We support four grantee partners across Thailand, a majority of them work on supporting communities in furthering land and environmental rights and protection. Within this thematic area, partners work with different strategies, including legal interventions, documentation, awareness - raising, as well as improving protection of human rights defenders including, indigenous and women human rights defenders. Another area that one of our grantee partners works on is protection of human rights defenders and the right to defend rights through capacity strengthening and solidarity building.

Our impact

At the NHRF, we collect big and small success stories from our grantee partners to show the impact they are able to make at various levels. Two of the stories from our grantee partners in Thailand are described below.

Our grantee partner in Thailand, the Center for Protection and Revival of Local Community Rights (CPCR), successfully obtained a temporary protection order preventing the granting of a mining license. This is the result of efforts led by young indigenous women, and the community, supported by CPCR, who have been working to document and raise awareness about the impact of mining projects on the local land and environment along with legal action
