The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) works to uphold a high ethical standard for its operations and expect the same of its grantee partners. We are committed to adhering to and promoting anti-corruption measures and ensuring environments where safeguarding principles, including on sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH), are implemented and all people involved in our work are protected and feel safe.

Women around the world have mobilized and united for their rights and have pushed recognition of and action on the pervasive violent systems of oppression of women through myriad forms of sexual violence. The #metoo campaign began by revealing the extent of sexual harassment in the entertainment business and soon exposed that sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence and discrimination are found in nearly all workplaces and fields of work, including human rights.

In 2019, the NHRF started to systematically address sexual harassment and safeguarding to our grantee partners across the world, during seminars in Colombia, India, Thailand and Mexico. Since then, we have held several learning and sharing sessions with grantee partners across the world, often with local and national experts as well as representatives from NHRF grantee partners, sharing best practices as well as challenges in this area. Together we learn and grow.

The NHRF has developed its own Ethical Guidelines, with chapters on, among other, safeguarding and sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment. Eliminating sexual harassment and the systems that promote and enable it is a priority for the NHRF, and as such we expect all our grantees to ensure a safe environment for everyone working with them and that are affected by their work.
