The Norwegian Human Rights Fund
The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) works to protect and promote human rights internationally through direct support to local organisations.
Vision and mission
The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) works to protect and promote human rights internationally through direct support to organisations working in the first line of defence for human rights.
The NHRF aims to be a flexible, courageous and global actor that provides direct support to local organisations working for the rights of vulnerable and marginalised individuals and groups.
Our values
During 2023, we reflected on the question of what values should guide our work. We have had deep conversations about when we feel most proud of our work, how we want to be seen and experienced by our grantee partners, donors, and others we cooperate with, and which values should guide us when we are faced with challenging dilemmas.
The three values that will guide the work of the NHRF going forward are Courage, Flexibility and Solidarity.
Strategy
The NHRF’s overall objective is increased respect for the human rights of vulnerable and marginalised individuals and groups through support to local human rights organisations.
In order to contribute to the overall objective, the NHRF will support projects that work against impunity and discrimination and for access to justice, improved working conditions and security for human rights defenders.
History
The NHRF was founded in 1988 and sprung out of Norwegian civil society, academia and workers’ unions.
Established as a flexible donor, the NHRF has been able to take risks and support nascent initiatives which are targeted and smart, without intermediary links or time-consuming procedures.
As a part of this, the NHRF has built rich and vast networks of relevant actors within which the NHRF actively participates, both locally and internationally.
What our logo means
Our new logo symbolizes the NHRF’s ambitions for solidarity and putting humans first in human rights work.
