What we do
The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) works to protect and promote human rights internationally through direct support to organisations and movements working in the first line of defence for human rights.

Protecting human rights defenders and the right to defend rights
The NHRF prioritises projects aimed to avert immediate risk or give instant relief to human rights defenders, projects concerning situations needing special attention, and projects working to establish meaningful relations between local, national and international levels.

Fight against impunity and for access to justice
The NHRF prioritises work aimed at ensuring full and equal access to justice, recognizing justice as the key component to combat impunity.

Dismantling discrimination, inequality and marginalisation
Work against discrimination and marginalisation of vulnerable individuals and groups is at the core of the NHRF’s mandate and overall objective.
Oslo Breathing Space City
Oslo Breathing Space City is a temporary relocation programme with the aim of creating a breathing space for human rights defenders living in stressful or hostile environments.

Advocacy
The advocacy work work of the NHRF takes as a starting point the NHRF mandate of being “a unique organisation that fills the dual role of a grantmaker and an international human rights actor” with our goal being “that marginalised and vulnerable individuals and other groups who experience human rights violations and injustices are able to claim their rights and have them fulfilled”.
